Rockglen residents must have a tag on their garbage bags and/or boxes in order to have them picked up. The bags and/or boxes cannot weigh over 40 pounds or they will not be picked up. Please wrap the tag around the top of the garbage bag and stick it to itself or place the tag on the side of the box.
Grass clippings, garden refuse and leaves can be hauled to the landfill at no charge. These items must be put in the compost pile. If bagged, the bags must be emptied and removed. No garbage is to be put in the compost pile or it will result in this service being removed.
Tree branches and untreated wood can be hauled to the landfill and put in the wood pile to be burnt at no charge.
Metal can be hauled to the landfill and put in the metal pile at no charge EXCEPT for appliances containing FREON.
Wire cannot be put in the metal pile. Wire must be put in the pit as the metal recycling companies will not accept it.
TIRES are not allowed at the landfill. All tires must be taken to a designated tire marshalling yard.
Used oil containers can be dropped off at the Rockglen Co-op for recycling THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE LANDFILL.
Pesticide containers and chemical containers must be returned to the place they were purchased. THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED IN THE LANDFILL.
Manure, grain, bales, petroleum wastes, slaughter house wastes, dead animals, propane tanks, fuel tanks, batteries and other comparable wastes shall not be deposited at the landfill.
Electronic items allowed in the trailer at the landfill are as follows:
– desktop computers
– portable computers
– computer peripherals (keyboards, mice and trackballs)
– desktop printers and fax machines
– tv’s and computer monitors
– personal or portable audio/video systems
– vehicle audio/video systems
– home audio/video systems
– non-cellular telephones
Electronic items not allowed in the trailer at the landfill are as follows:
– small appliances such as toasters, toaster ovens, blenders, etc.
